June 1862 Home

turning red, but not yet full ripe I shall however carry down a basket of them & they will ripen in a few days; - also some Red Astrachan apples
5.P.M. No news of importance in the papers.
I received by mail today a letter from Prof F. S. Holmes, who is Chief Superintendent of the Nitre District (No 6) for S. C. in which he states that he expects to establish a factory or branch of Nitre making in this vicinity, & invites me to accept the supervision. I have replied not with final acceptance, but signifying a wish to see him first on the subject. He expects to be here in a few days.
I expect to go down by the night train & Mrs Heyward will go with me
