March 1870 Hampton hill

Sunday 6 The rite of Confirmation by the Bishop was administered to 5 young ladies & 2 young men 
Cloudy day, but a full attendance at Church. Mr Cornish assisted at the Ante Communion service 

M. 7 Received a letter from Emily also one from Dr Parry in reference to my Lichens. He will take one of the fullest sets, - planted in garden Carrots & Turnips, & Beets also sweet potatoes in seed bed.

T. 8 Went out collecting Rock Lichens on hill in my farm west of valley. -- Dr Rockwell, & his wife & a Mrs Anderson called this afternoon. 

W. 9 Walked out again this morning to botanize for Lichens to add to my sets. Sowed Drumhead Cabbage in garden. Very cold last night - ground frozen this morning - fruit probably killed.

Th. 10 Walked out again this morning to make collections.
Planted Irish potatoes along side of garden.
Mrs Dawson who has been staying with Mary since the birth of the baby, returned home this afternoon She is going on Saturday to Georgia to see Maggie.

F. 1l Meta Heyward came out & spent the night with the girls 

S. 12 Received a letter last night from James Wilson, He thinks my Peoples Bank shares will improve, & advises me not to sell.
